GroundWorks is a non-profit organization located in Pullman, WA and founded in 1995. We are committed to protecting and restoring natural areas in Eastern Washington and Central Idaho. GroundWorks is an all volunteer organization; our projects have been accomplished through the work of more than 6,000 volunteers. The areas that GroundWorks is working to restore provide habitat for wildlife and fish, contribute to filtering of runoff water, assist in flood control, provide areas for recreation and allow opportunities for environmental education.
GroundWorks is committed to environmental education and has involved students from elementary school, through college in our projects. We believe that hands on involvement in restoration efforts fosters a greater connection between area youth and their environment, a connection that we hope will contribute to a more ecologically sustainable future. One of the first projects GroundWorks conducted involved the planting of ponderosa pine and aspen trees, by kindergartners, on the Koppel Farm project site. The trees are now more than fifteen feet tall and the students just graduated from high school. |
